 Following is UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s message for World Autism Day, observed on 2 April:

The international community is now embarking on the challenge of realizing the ambitious and universal 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The equal participation and active involvement of persons with autism will be essential for achieving the inclusive societies envisioned by the Sustainable Development Goals.
Autism is a lifelong condition that affects millions of people worldwide. It is not well understood in many countries, and too many societies shun people with autism.
This is a violation of human rights and a waste of human potential. I have seen the dynamism and commitment of persons with autism. Earlier this year, I was honoured to engage in a dialogue with one such young man at United Nations Headquarters in New York. I was especially impressed by his innovative approach to the issue of how we can reach the Sustainable Development Goals.
While persons with autism naturally have a wide range of abilities and different areas of interest, they all share the capacity for making our world a better place. The UnitedNations is proud to champion the autism awareness movement. The rights, perspectives and well-being of people with autism, and all persons with disabilities, are integral to the 2030 Agenda and its commitment to leave no one behind.

The transition to adulthood is especially sensitive. As a strong advocate of mobilizing the world’s youth to contribute to our collective future, I call for societies to invest more funds in enabling young persons with autism to be part of their generation’s historic push for progress.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. On this World Autism Awareness Day, I call for advancing the rights of individuals with autism and ensuring their full participation and inclusion as valued members of our diverse human family who can contribute to a future of dignity and opportunity for all.

Cộng đồng quốc tế hiện nay đang bắt tay vào việc thực hiện Chương trình về phát triển bền vững toàn cầu đến năm 2030 nhiều tham vọng và thách thức. Sự tham gia bình đẳng và tích cực của người mắc chứng tự kỷ là rất cần thiết để đạt được xã hội hòa nhập như đã được hình dung trong các Mục tiêu Phát triển bền vững.
Tự kỷ là một tình trạng kéo dài suốt đời ảnh hưởng đến hàng triệu người trên toàn thế giới. Nó không phải đã được hiểu rõ ở nhiều nước, và vẫn còn quá nhiều xã hội xa lánh những người bị tự kỷ.
Đây là một sự vi phạm nhân quyền và là một sự lãng phí tiềm năng con người. Tôi đã thấy sự năng động và tận tụy của người tự kỷ. Đầu năm nay, tôi đã vinh dự được tham gia vào một cuộc đối thoại với một người đàn ông trẻ tuổi tự kỷ như vậy tại trụ sở Liên hợp quốc ở New York. Tôi đặc biệt ấn tượng bởi cách tiếp cận sáng tạo vấn đề của anh để chúng ta có thể đạt được các Mục tiêu Phát triển bền vững.

The rights, perspectives and well-being of people with autism, and all persons with disabilities, are integral to the 2030 Agenda and its commitment to leave no one behind. Các quyền, quan điểm và phúc lợi của người tự kỷ, và tất cả những người khuyết tật, là không thể thiếu trong  Chương trình 2030 và cam kết không để lại một ai ở phía sau.
